Dear Parents/Caregivers
This is the very first edition of our newsletter incorporating our “South Hornby Smiler”.  A big thank you to those businesses who have advertised on the back of this newsletter and enabled us to receive a year’s supply of free newsletter covers.  From now on, the newsletter will only be sent home with the Eldest in the Family.   It is also available to read on our website www.southhornby.school.nz.

REFLECTION TIME
This term all classes will be having a “Reflection Time” from 2.40 p.m. to 2.50 p.m. daily.  This is where the children will sit with their teacher and discuss the days happenings.  Parents/Caregivers are most welcome to go into the classroom and listen to what the children are saying.  Please be quiet so the children will not be distracted.

3 WAY CONFERENCING
On Wednesday 1 September from 3.00 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. and Thursday 2 September from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. we will be having our goal setting review.  A separate notice will be sent home soon.  Return the form with your preferred times as soon as possible, as first in will get the time they want.

BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
Bible in Schools has started and will continue every Friday from 9.00 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. until the end of the year.  If your child is not to participate in Bible in Schools please do not send or bring them to school until 9.30 a.m.   Thank you.

SCHOOL DONATIONS
For those families who have not paid their school donations an invoice will be sent home with the next newsletter.  Your donations will go to help keep our swimming pool up to standard so we can keep on offering our children the chance to get plenty of swimming practise.

SCHOOL PHOTOS
School photos will be taken on Tuesday 17 August.  For your child/ren to be in the class photo they must be in the correct school uniform (navy tunic sweatshirt with white logo, red polo shirt with white logo, plain navy shorts/culottes, plain navy sweatshirting fabric trackpants).  Every child will have an individual photo taken, which will be sent home for you to view and purchase if you wish.  Class photos will be displayed in the school foyer for your viewing and ordering.
Family photos will be taken in the school library between 8.30 a.m. – 9.00 a.m.  A copy will be sent home to you, the same as the individual photos.  No prebookings or prepaid orders.  If you are having a family photo taken there will be a master sheet for you to sign in the library.
Hagley Sports Teams will also have their photo taken.   Children will need to wear their full school uniform for their class photo but come prepared with their sports uniform for their sport team photos.  They must have their sport uniform to be in the photo.

Thanking you
Lindsay Penman Principal

PARENT SUPPORT GROUP
The Parent Support Group would like to thank all the parents for their support throughout the year. Examples of money raised this year are: Walkathon $3,700, Calendars $1,060.00 and Bunnings Warehouse Sausage Sizzle $800.00.

Total amount spent on all children of South Hornby School this year was approx $13,000.

Without your donations the children would not receive the benefits of subsidised trips, subsidised school camps and all the extra sports equipment and books not supplied by the Ministry of Education.
If you would like to be part of this group who help raise funds for all children at South Hornby School come along to our first meeting of the 2010 school year, to be held in the staffroom on Thursday 4 February at 3 p.m.

If you are thinking of having a clean out over the school holidays please think twice about throwing it out as we are planning to hold a car boot sale in the early year.
More details at the start of the school year.
